Welcome to Stat 406 website! Important announcements and materials will be posted on this site. Students are expected to visit it often, at least once a day.


Announcement (Apr 11):
Grades for Assignment 5 are available now. If you have any question, please email the TA.

Announcement (Apr 6):
The TA will hold an office hour in RM 312 from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm on April 6. And the lab will be in RM 301 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm on April 7.

Announcement (Apr 2):
Emphasize the requirements of R code once again! Your coding style will be taken into consideration. The code you submit should be EXECUTABLE at least. So please do delete any unnecessary characters, such as R prompts '>' and '+', etc. Double check your code before you submit it.

Announcement (Mar 11):
Hints for Assignment 4 has been revised since many of you did not go to the lab last week and therefore missed some hints on Question (c), Problem 2. Take a look if you want to.

Announcement (Mar 9):
There is a mistake in Question (b), Problem 1, Assignment 4. In the definition of robust residuals, MAD should not be square rooted. Corrected version of Assignment 4 is updated.

Announcement (Mar 2): R codes for Assignment 3 by the TA have been uploaded. If you find any mistake, please e-mail the TA.

Announcement (Feb 28): There are three mistakes in "Hints for midterm practice".

(1)  In Problem 2, the conditional expectation of Y should be 2/3, not -1/3.
(2)  In Question (iii), Problem 3, the confidence interval should be [17.27, 27.02].
(5)  In the R code for Problem 5, the definition of function chi() should be ifelse( abs( y ) <= d, ( y / d )^2, 1 ).

The corrected version has been uploaded. Sorry for the mistakes.

Announcement (Feb 27): The TA will hold a temp office hour before the midterm exam. It is in RM 312, LSK Building, from  1:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Mar. 3 only.

Announcement (Feb 4): There is a typo in Assignment 2, Problem 2 Part (c). You are required to construct a CI for the parameter mu but not for the sample trimmed mean. The corrected version of Assignment 2 has been posted.
